Case Mod How-To for the Alix Single Board Computer

Is this procedure safe? Hell no! Don’t try this at home kids, unless you have the proper safety equipment! The Dremel can reach speeds of up to 35,000 RPM as it cuts through your aluminum case like it was made of butter. Tiny bits of aluminum will be flying everywhere. You probably don’t want that shit in your eyes or lungs. And don’t forget about your ears. The Dremel cutting wheel will make lots of loud noises as it slices and dices your case.

At a minimum, I recommend you wear at least the following:

  • Safety face shield.
  • Safety glasses (yes, you should wear both the shield and the glasses, as recommended in the shield’s instructions).
  • Ear muffs.
  • Dust mask.

Make sure to read your Dremel user manual thoroughly before you try using it. It’s harder than it looks to keep that thing steady. In the blink of an eye, you can lose an eye…or a finger.

Nice how-to! I just bought an Alix and was getting sick and tired of swapping the CF card to try different firmwares.
