Okay, it’s time to install the new RAM, so flip over your NC10 and let’s get started. First, you’ll need to remove the memory door (Figure 4).
To remove the memory door, you’ll need a small Phillips screwdriver, patience and a brain surgeon’s hands. I won’t kid you; this part of the task is tricky and could lead to disaster if you’re not careful. Why? Check out the tiny plastic tabs in Figures 5 and 6.
Those tabs are flimsy and it wouldn’t take much force to break them. So, remove the screw then gently wiggle and flex the door until it comes off. Take your time and don’t rush. Here’s what you should see after taking the door off:
On my NC10, the stock RAM was Samsung brand (Figure 8). In my experience, Samsung RAM is good quality and you could certainly use it instead of Crucial RAM, if you wish.
To remove the stock RAM, gently press outwards on the memory retaining clips and the module should pop out (Figure 9).
Next, gently insert the new RAM into the empty slot, making sure the new RAM is oriented the same way as the old RAM (it should fit only one way). Now push the retaining clips back inwards to secure the RAM into the slot. Finally, reattach the memory door.
With the new RAM installed, it’s time to test it.
