It’s always good practice to test new RAM with a memory testing utility such as Memtest86+.
Start by booting your NC10 netbook with a USB flash drive that contains the Memtest86+ utility. How do you do that? See my article How to Run Memtest86+ On a Bootable USB Flash Drive. After booting your NC10, Memtest86+ should automatically start (Figure 10).
You can pretty much leave it alone while it’s running. If you’re curious, you can check the progress from time to time. It should take about an hour or two to run one pass of the entire test suite. If the RAM is good, you’ll see “Pass complete, no errors, press Esc to exit” (Figure 11). If you see that, press Esc, then reboot your NC10 back into Windows.
The final check you should do is to confirm that Windows recognizes all of the RAM. Go into Control Panel and bring up the System Properties window. You should see something like the following, which shows you have 2 GB of RAM installed.
That’s it! Enjoy your new RAM and let me know if you see a performance improvement. For example, I noticed that my NC10 booted faster with the additional RAM.
