In this video, I unbox the Asus RT-N16 Wireless-N Gigabit Router. I purchased the RT-N16 from ncix.com in August, 2010 and paid around $100 (Canadian).
Back January 2010, SmallNetBuilder.com reviewed the RT-N16. According to that review, here’s the RT-N16’s hardware specs:
- Single band Wireless-N networking in the 2.4 GHz range
- Gigabit WAN and LAN ports
- Broadcom BCM4718 processor running at 533 Mhz
- 128MB of RAM
- 32 MB of flash
- 2 USB2 ports
- 3 external antennas
For the price I paid, those are excellent specs indeed! By comparison, consider the classic LinkSys WRT54GL, which has only 16 MB RAM, 4 MB flash, a 200 MHz processor, wireless-G networking, 10/100 Mbps wired networking and no USB ports. The nifty Netgear WNR3500L comes a lot closer to the RT-N16, with similar specs in most categories, but falls short in the RAM and flash categories, with only 64MB and 8MB, respectively. For hardware specs, you can’t do much better than the RT-N16, unless you pay a lot more for something like an Alix or a Soekris (both of which are excellent, by the way).
Anyway, without further ado, here is my RT-N16 unboxing video:

Any idea how does it fare against Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH?
By the way nice informative video.
Hi Vinay, I wasn’t aware of the WZR-HP-G300NH but there is a good comparison of the two routers on the dd-wrt site.
it’s been a couple of months, so what’s your feedback on RTN16? Also thx for the unboxing vid
Alex,
Sadly, my RT-N16 was stolen and I haven’t got around to replacing it yet.
Hi,
Does the power adapter support 100-240V input?
Hi Ryan,
Sorry I have no idea about the adapter support.
