Founder, Author and Editor-in-Chief

Joe has been an information technology professional since the mid-nineties. His diverse career includes various software development and system administration positions in the accounting, commodities trading, health care and airline fields. In a previous life, Joe also managed an iconic Vancouver restaurant.
Joe’s educational achievements include a Bachelor of Commerce (Urban Land Economics) from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Technology (Distributed Systems) from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
In addition to writing countless electronic articles about technology and fitness on internet blogs, Joe is also a published author in the print media, having authored an article in the September-October 2007 edition of the Running Room Magazine.
Joe is an advocate of open source software, utilizing open source solutions wherever possible at home, in the office and for clients. While Joe is not currently a committer on any major open source projects, he is actively involved in submitting bug fixes, bug reports, suggestions and comments to such projects as the Spring Framework, Hibernate, OpenWrt, Apache Commons, Ubuntu Linux and pfSense.
Some of Joe’s favorite technologies and tools include Java, Linux, C#, SQL, JUnit, SpamAssassin, WordPress, Drupal and relational databases.
In his spare time, when he’s not fiddling with Linux-based embedded systems, Joe as an avid swimmer and coaches youth soccer, football and ball hockey.
